Ocarina fingering chart

Updated 2026-10-27

An ocarina fingering chart shows which holes to cover for each note. Pick the chart for your ocarina below: each one lists every note with a picture, the holes in words and a button to hear it. Below is the C major scale, the first thing to learn on any of them.

What are the notes on the ocarina?

On an ocarina in C, the notes are the C major scale: C, D, E, F, G, A, B and high C, plus the sharps and flats in between. How far it goes depends on the holes: a 12-hole plays low A to high F, a 6-hole pendant C to high E, and a 4-hole pendant C to high C.

How many notes can an ocarina play?

A 12-hole ocarina plays 21 notes, a 6-hole pendant 17 and a 4-hole pendant 13, counting every sharp and flat. That is enough for most folk songs and carols. A 4-hole plays 6 of the 12 Ocarina of Time songs in full; the others reach high D, which needs a 12-hole or 6-hole.

Do the charts work for ocarinas in G or F?

Yes. Pure Ocarinas: "the same fingerings apply to ocarinas in any key; just substitute the notes of that key". The fingerings stay the same and only the pitch changes, so you can read these charts and any tabs written for C.

What about 10-hole and 7-hole ocarinas?

A 10-hole ocarina is a 12-hole without the sub-holes: Pure Ocarinas says the "eight finger holes and two thumb holes are universal across all single chambered ocarinas, regardless of if you have a 10, 11, or 12 hole ocarina". Use the 12-hole chart from C upwards. We have not made a 7-hole chart yet.
