Which Christmas song is easiest on the ocarina?

The easiest is Jingle Bells: five notes, C to G, mostly one note repeated, so the tongue does more work than the fingers. Then come the medium ones, Good King Wenceslas, Hark! The Herald Angels Sing, Joy to the World, O Christmas Tree and O Come, All Ye Faithful; each song's page names its tricky spot and how to practise it. The hardest are Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy and Silent Night. Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy: reaches high F, the top note of a 12-hole, with a leap from D straight up to it, and its falling semitones need two cross-fingered notes, B flat and high C sharp, and C sharp on the right sub-hole. Silent Night: climbs to high F, the top note of a 12-hole, with every hole open.

Which Christmas songs can I play on a 4-hole or 6-hole ocarina?

On a 4-hole pendant: Jingle Bells, Good King Wenceslas, Joy to the World and O Come, All Ye Faithful, which stay between C and high C. A 6-hole adds Hark! The Herald Angels Sing and O Christmas Tree, which climb past high C. Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy (C♯ to high F) and Silent Night (C to high F) need a 12-hole. The 4-hole songs and 6-hole songs pages have the rest of the year's tunes.

What can I play on New Year's Eve?

Auld Lang Syne, the Scottish song sung at the stroke of midnight to see the old year out. On our site it is rated easy, so it makes a good last tune of the holidays.

Why are only old Christmas songs here?

Because we only publish tabs for tunes that are out of copyright: a song is in when it was in print before 1931 and everyone known to have written it died before 1956, and each song's page names an early printing of it. Christmas songs written since then are still under copyright, so they are not here. Deck the Halls is not here yet either: when we last searched, on 29 October 2026, we had not found the version sung today in a printing old enough to show it is out of copyright.
