Songs for a 12-hole ocarina
A 12-hole alto C plays A4 to F6 (STL Ocarina's figure when we checked on 27 October 2026), low A to high F, so all 54 songs on our site fit it, each with 12-hole tabs. This list puts them in the order a 12-hole player meets the harder holes: 24 need only the eight finger holes, with both thumb holes covered; 21 lift a thumb, for the notes above high C; 3 cover a sub-hole, for a note below C or a C♯ or D♯; and 6 need both.

Which songs use the sub-holes on a 12-hole ocarina?
Canon in D (low A), Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy (C♯), Danny Boy (low A and low B), Greensleeves (low A, low B and C♯), Gymnopédie No. 1 (low A and low B), In the Hall of the Mountain King (D♯), Minuet in G (low B), Sakura Sakura (low B) and The Entertainer (D♯). The sub-holes are the two small holes beside your middle fingers: low B covers the right one as well as the ten main holes, low A covers both, low A♯ the left one alone, and the lower C♯ and D♯ add the right one to their fingerings. The 12-hole chart shows each fingering; seal every hole, or the low notes squeak.
Which songs reach the top notes of a 12-hole ocarina?
Canon in D (up to high E), Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy (up to high F), Danny Boy (up to high E), Frère Jacques (up to high E), Für Elise (up to high E), Hallelujah Chorus (up to high E), Hark! The Herald Angels Sing (up to high E), New World Symphony Largo (up to high E), Pomp and Circumstance (up to high F), Silent Night (up to high F), The Entertainer (up to high E), The Irish Washerwoman (up to high E) and Yankee Doodle (up to high F) climb to high E or F, the last two notes a 12-hole has. High E is played with only the left pinky down, and high F with every hole open, so they need a faster, firmer breath than anything below; our guide to squeaky high notes covers how.
Which songs need a 12-hole ocarina?
10 of them: Canon in D, Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy, Danny Boy, Greensleeves, Gymnopédie No. 1, Minuet in G, Pomp and Circumstance, Sakura Sakura, Silent Night and Yankee Doodle. Our 6-hole tabs are for a pendant in C like STL's 6-hole tenor, listed at C5 to E6 when we checked on 27 October 2026: C to high E. A song that dips below C or climbs to high F is out of its reach; if your 6-hole is a different model, its maker's chart shows its range. A 4-hole stops at high C. Every other song in the list also fits a 6-hole, as the 6-hole songs show, and the 4-hole songs are the ones that fit the smallest pendant.
