The Frog's Song of Soul as Link plays it on the ocarina in the Game Boy game: the eleven notes of one fan MIDI file, Mark Carroll's, which VGMusic titles "Mamu's Ocarina". It is the only file we cite for these notes. The file has no bar lines, so the bars here are ours, and so are the lengths of the long G and of the last note. Slowed from the file's 160 beats a minute to 120, it is easier to follow, and moved an octave and a major third lower than the file, to C major, the whole song fits a 4-hole ocarina as well as the bigger ones.

What is the tricky spot in the Frog's Song of Soul?

The step from the long G up to the A, the top note of the song. The G is held for a beat and a half, so the A has to come in cleanly at the end of it, and it needs a little firmer air than the G. On a 12-hole, the Frog's Song of Soul goes from G to A: you lift the left ring. On a 6-hole or 4-hole, you lift the right index.

How do you hold and breathe for the Frog's Song of Soul?

There is no rest in the tune, so breathe at the bar line by shortening the A a little, and again before the last note if you need to. The first run up the scale is one smooth phrase, so keep the air soft and steady through it. To check your breath, hold each note of the Frog's Song of Soul in turn and watch it on a tuner such as our free ocarina tuner.

Which ocarina can play the Frog's Song of Soul?

The Frog's Song of Soul goes from C up to A. Any 12-hole, 6-hole or 4-hole ocarina in C plays it.

Zelda Wiki says Link can learn it from Mamu and his frog choir by finishing the puzzle in Signpost Maze after he has the Hookshot. Mamu calls it a "previously unreleased cut", and Link has to pay 300 Rupees to hear it. Its main use is to revive the Flying Rooster under the Weathercock in Mabe Village, and later in the quest Link plays it once more to wake Turtle Rock and open the dungeon of the same name. Wikipedia credits the music of Link's Awakening to Kazumi Totaka, Minako Hamano and Kozue Ishikawa.
